Firehouse Committee Meeting

This meeting which included representatives from the ZHA, TNC, and firemen from Mosca-Hooper  was held at the Nature Conservancy.  The 1979, fire engine donated to us by the Alamosa Fire Department will be stored at the Nature Conservancy across Highway 150 from our subdivision.

The arrival of the engine will take place after all documents have been signed by all participating parties.  Discussion was held regarding the building site for the new firehouse.  Volunteer firemen from Mosca-Hooper Fire Department stated their site requirements included the following:  open area, quick access, and defensible space.  ZHA concerns centered around the appearance of the building.  It is important that the building blend in with the surroundings.  The trash dumpster area seems to be the most logical site at this time in terms of the discussed fire department needs.

Also under consideration are funding sources, building plans, building size and appearance, and building use and ownership.  Jerry Grandey presented a set of items to consider before building a community firehouse.  The group noted which items were necessary for this project.  Group members will get preliminary bids for construction based on the needs and talk to possible funding sources for the next meeting.  Refreshments provided by the Nature Conservancy were enjoyed by the meeting participants.
