Do Not Dump Hot Ashes

December 26, 2011 – Fire Protection, Announcements

Warm or hot materials from your fireplace or wood-stove will cause a Fire in the Dumpster!

There have been several instances this year that the Fire Department had to respond to a fire in the dumpster. On two other occasions, residents were able to put out the hot spot in the trash. This could be very dangerous and expensive for the Association to have to repair or replace a dumpster.

Please dispose of your ashes responsibly.

It's worth noting that worse things can happen when ashes aren't handled correctly. There was recently a large fire in Reno that burned large areas of open space and forest, burned 29 homes, and caused one fatality. Eventually a man came forward to admit that he hadn't disposed of his fireplace ashes properly, causing the fire.

Well it's going to start costing us more money. Just received notice from GT Trash that they will be sending us a bill for damages to the dumpster from the last fire incident. It won't be cheap.
