August 2023 Work Day a Success!

The August 19, 2023 volunteer work day turned out to be top-notch thanks to a turnout of several community regulars plus Sage Z and Alex D, two new recruits enthusiastic to learn the ropes. As much a fun gathering of hard-working volunteers the somewhat limited turnout produced some very productive work indeed.

What’s New

  • Several dead cottonwood trees with large branches overhanging the roadway along the exit lane past the gate on Lake of the Falls were removed.
  • Distracting low and overhanging juniper branches along a short section of Hampton Run were pruned. All of the debris was quickly loaded up and hauled off to the wood recovery lot for wintertime processing.
  • Several stumps from last year’s removal of dead cottonwood trees near the Zapata community’s entrance flagpole were cut flush to the ground to help minimize the clear-cut look.
  • New rock-filled gabions were built which support new signage near the community’s highway 150 entrance. They now add to existing signage notifying tourists that the subdivision is private.

The tired but genial group congregated afterwards at Erin Smith’s home for an excellent late potluck dinner she prepared for the group. Many thanks to Erin for welcoming the crew!

Thanks Guys!
